S. Korea to pull troops from Iraq (CNN) -- South Korea -- a major supporter of President Bush's Iraq policy -- has announced plans to pull a third of its troops out of Iraq in 2006, a National Security Council spokesman said Thursday. But spokesman Fred Jones said the move is part of a governmental process, and that there was "no official communication or notification" to the United States regarding the pulling of troops.
Japan also sends troops to Iraq. Now members from Kyushu, a southern island of Japan, are staying and acting in Iraq. But most of them are not willing to go there at all. Many reports tell us that members of Japanese troops have never thought of be sent to a foreign country where terrorists are still active. Contrary to Japan’s situation, Korean people seemed to accept American policies according to media. It was said that to go to Iraq was popular among troops because the salary was much higher than staying in Korea. So this news sounds a bit odd to me.
Japanese Parliament should decide whether or not we withdraw from Iraq by this year when the current law allows our army to go to Iraq. But people’s focus is now on economic resurrections so that we rarely talk about Iraq. Maybe the time we pull troops from Iraq will be the same time when US does.
